Bytex Configuration Utility
The Bytex configuration
utility (bytex_config) simplifies configuration of the Bytex switch.
Most of the labs (including all STARS labs) and many of the resources such
as SCIPs are connected to the Bytex at the Tech Center. Configuring
this switch allows a lab to receive data from a SIRS tool, live data, or
the Target Generation Facility.
Starting the Bytex Configuration Utility
- Log in as user stars.
- Start X-Windows by typing startx.
- Click on the Bytex button at the bottom of the screen.
The window in figure 1 should appear.

Selecting a Bytex Configuration
- A list of Bytex configurations are displayed in a scrolling
list at the top of the main window. See figure 2.
- Click on one of the configurations or use the arrow keys
to select a configuration.
- Read and verify that the description that appears below the
list is what you want. See figure 2.

Executing a Bytex Configuration
- Once the appropriate Bytex configuration has been selected,
click on the "Execute" button. See figure 2.
- The Bytex command window will appear and reveal the status,
either OK or failed, of each Bytex command. See figure 3.
- If the Bytex configuration displays current port or group
settings, the window will appear. See figure 4.

Warning Dialogs
- A warning dialog will appear any time the Bytex configuration
you are executing is about to change a resource that may be used by others.
- Please read the dialog carefully and check that your actions
will not affect others. See figure 5.

Other Buttons
- Quit - Abort any currently executing configuration
and quit the Bytex configuration utility.
- Log - Show the log file of executed Bytex commands.
- About - Show copyright information and a link to the
JVN Communications, Inc. web site.
